Priorities: Enhance connection between exterior and interior by creating “outdoor rooms.” Use the resources from the land-milled redwood for benches, etc. Incorporate landscaping & built environment.

Stewarding Big River Farm as a former Zen commune turned rental compound has been a 35 year project. Keeping the tranquil vibrations while adding modern amenities has been a creative challenge. The former meditation/communal gathering building, the Zendo, has been reborn as a funky well appointed vacation rental. Debra has enhanced the ‘wood butcher’ aesthetic with complementary materials such as CorTen steel roofing and dimensional redwood beams and posts that blend in with the original redwood construction from the 1960’s. She has created outdoor “rooms” to enhance the experience of living under the redwood trees or in the colorful garden with benches, patios & creative furnishings.
