Shabby Chic Kitchen Remodel
Reclaimed Space with Updated Style
Completed: 2015
Location: Mendocino
Priorities: Create more space for dining area. Open up kitchen by combining existing kitchen with small pantry. Create a laundry room from an unheated storage porch. Remodel existing outdated bathroom to make a creative, fun place.
The clients purchased this small home and wanted to gain some extra space for dining while opening up the kitchen, creating a laundry space from a funky storage area & remodel the outdated bathroom.
The use of borrowed space for the dining nook in the new bay window pop-out is a technique Debra expanded on Sarah Susanka’s Not So Big House book series. Details such as the diamond window patterns, backsplash tile and beadboard cabinet doors are intricately woven to create a dynamic, interesting ‘shabby chic’ aesthetic throughout the refurbished home.
Debra collaborated with the clients and Rosco Tuomala of Greenwood Construction for the best solution that fit the clients’ needs and budget.
